Life is full of questions: "What does it all mean?", "What am I here for?", and so on. But there's one question that's even more important than any of those: "What makes my life worth living?"
Now, some people might say money or fame or power would be their answer. But those things only work if you define your own meaning—and they can't do that for you.
Other people might say something like love or family would make their lives worthwhile... but again, those things are abstractions and don't tell us anything about what specifically makes life worth living in the moment-to-moment experience of it all.
So what makes life worth living? Here are 10 ideas to get us started:
1. The most obvious thing that makes life worth living is love
Love is the reason we are here, and it's what makes us human. If you have ever experienced true love, then you know exactly what I mean when I say that there are no words in any human language to describe how amazing and fulfilling the feeling of being loved can be.
2. Anything that makes you feel powerful is worth living for.
Whether it's being able to control your own thoughts, emotions and actions or having the strength to overcome obstacles and challenges, anything that makes you feel powerful is worth living for.
Powerful is a feeling of strength, confidence and self-control. Powerful people are often seen as leaders because they have the ability to set goals and achieve them. They can inspire others around them to do great things too! Power gives you freedom: freedom from fear, guilt, doubt... anything that holds you back from achieving your full potential. It also gives people power over themselves by helping them make better decisions about their lives, relationships and careers.
3. Some people derive meaning from their work and careers
Some people derive meaning from their work and careers, while others find it in the roles they play within their communities. There are many different types of work, and some may be more meaningful than others depending on who you are as a person. For example, if you're someone who values having a purpose or mission in life and contributing to society (a lot of us do), then working for an organization that makes a positive difference might feel like one of the most meaningful activities you can engage in during your leisure time.
Some people derive meaning from their work because it gives them financial security; others derive meaning from the social connections they make with coworkers at their jobs; still others find meaning by using their bodies to achieve something physically challenging at work every day—like being able to lift heavy boxes easily because those muscles were built up over years of physical labor. The list goes on! As long as it's something that brings value into your life, then finding meaning through your career or job is absolutely possible—and sometimes necessary if staying focused on what matters most means anything at all when it comes down to our everyday lives."
4. Things that make you feel connected to others are worth living for.
I’m sure you have heard that “it takes a village to raise a child,” and this is true. But it also takes a village to make life worth living!
There are many ways we can feel connected with others, including:
friends who share your interests
family members that love and support you no matter what (and who are not afraid of having deep conversations)
partners in crime who keep you laughing even at times when the world feels too heavy for laughter
children who remind us of our own childhoods and the wonder of life in general (what could be more delightful than seeing their innocent faces?) * pets that make us smile every time they come running toward us, purring loudly or jumping up on our laps so they can get some attention from their favorite human(s).
5. Learning is another powerful source of meaning in life
Learning is another powerful source of meaning in life. Learning new things, learning from others, learning from your mistakes, learning through experience, learning through your environment and emotions, and even dreaming about what you want to learn next can all add up to create a richly meaningful life.
6. Other people's stories give us the opportunity to broaden our horizons and discover different perspectives on life
We all need an outside perspective from time to time. As we grow older, it becomes easier to get caught up in our own day-to-day lives and forget about how much progress has been made by others who came before us—and how much further we can go if we're willing to learn from them. Reading about other people's experiences, both good and bad, gives us all the opportunity to see how things work for them (and why) at any given point in time.
Anything that makes you feel inspired or makes your life seem more purposeful is worth living for.
Inspiration is a powerful motivator. It can help you overcome obstacles, be more creative, and feel happier.
In fact, there's a good chance that we'd all be more motivated if we were inspired by something more than just our own personal gain. For example, when I was younger and still in school, I was inspired by my teachers' passion for teaching and their passion for life in general—I wanted to make them proud of me! And now that I am older and have had many different jobs over the years (including teaching), it feels like my inspiration comes from anywhere or everywhere—from nature to art museums; from my friends' accomplishments; or even just from people who inspire me on social media.
7. Discovering what you're really good at can give you a sense of purpose and meaning in life...
Knowing what you're good at is important. It can give you a sense of purpose and meaning in life, as well as being something that helps others. Whether it's a talent for playing the piano or finding creative solutions to problems, knowing your strengths can help you find ways to make yourself feel more fulfilled.
You may be surprised at how much happiness it brings when another person recognizes your abilities and tells you how much they appreciate them. And if those talents lead into a career—especially one involving creativity or problem-solving—that will also boost your self-esteem by giving you an outlet for all that extra energy! You'll walk around feeling like the world's most valuable resource because of all your awesome skills.
8. ...as can helping others in need or volunteering for a cause you care about.
Helping others is another way of finding meaning and purpose in your life, so if you're looking for ways to make yourself feel more happy and satisfied on a daily basis, it may be time to reach out and lend a hand to those around you. It doesn't have to be anything grandiose—even something as simple as holding open doors for people or offering up your seat on the subway can go a long way toward making someone's day just that much brighter. And there are plenty of other ways to contribute too: If you have special skills (like writing), consider donating them; if not, perhaps you could volunteer at an organization whose work aligns with your values (or even start one!). The point here isn't just that helping others makes us feel good—it also gives us greater empathy and understanding of their plights; it helps us connect with people from different backgrounds; it helps build our community; it opens up new opportunities for personal growth; and most importantly, it reminds us why we're all here on this planet together.
9. Anything that makes you feel at peace with yourself and the world is worth living for.
It's no secret that peaceful moments are important for mental health. They help us to relax and feel at ease, which can lead to a general better attitude about life. Whether it's taking some time out to appreciate nature or spending time with friends and family, the simple act of being peaceful in the face of chaos can make all the difference in how we see life.
Peaceful moments also allow us to appreciate our world around us more fully—and this includes not only nature, but also our work environment, relationships with others (both personal and professional), and even ourselves as individuals. Peaceful moments can help you focus on what truly matters in your life while helping you realize what doesn't matter so much anymore—like getting upset over traffic jams or other minor annoyances that come up throughout your day-to-day routine.
10. Our Creator makes our life worth living
I've always wondered how my life is worth living. I often wonder why God would create someone like me and then decide that what I do was worth the trouble. When I think about the fact that there are billions of people on this planet who don't know God or have a relationship with him, it makes me want to give up because it seems so insignificant compared to all these other people who aren't interested in knowing God or being saved from sin. But, as someone who has come to know Christ intimately through his Word, I can tell you that he has given meaning and purpose to my life by making me part of his eternal plan for redemption—and yours too!
When we think about what “living well” means, we often think about enjoying life now instead of waiting until we die or don’t feel good about ourselves anymore. These things are important too—and they should be part of living well—but there is so much more than just this! So how do we know what living well really looks like? We need Jesus!
The main thing we should live for, though, isn't any of these things in particular but the feeling of waking up every morning, even after a bad night's sleep or a bad dream, and knowing we're going to be able to face whatever comes our way because we're still here, still breathing, with a brain full of dreams and an open heart, ready to take on the day no matter what it throws at us.
There are things that you have to do if you want your life to be worth living, but they're not always easy. The main thing we should live for, though, isn't any of these things in particular but the feeling of waking up every morning, even after a bad night's sleep or a bad dream, and knowing we're going to be able to face whatever comes our way because we're still here, still breathing and with a brain full of dreams that can help us through anything.
A positive attitude is the most important thing you can have in your life. When things go wrong or when things don't work out how you want them too it's easy for people to just give up on everything good about their lives and focus only on what is wrong with them instead of what makes them special and unique. Don't let yourself become one of those people! You deserve better than that!
If losing your positive attitude sounds familiar then it might be time for an attitude overhaul! It may seem difficult at first but keep trying until success feels like second nature again!
All in all, the things that make life worth living are those little moments of wonder and joy that we stumble across every day. They’re the things that make us feel connected to others or at peace with ourselves, and they give our lives meaning by reminding us how big and beautiful this world is. The most important thing we can do is open ourselves up to these experiences: if we find ourselves feeling alone or down on ourselves, try going out into nature; if we feel overwhelmed by stressors in our lives, take some time off work or go on vacation so that you can recharge your batteries; if you want more meaningful relationships with other humans but don’t know where to start, start small by reaching out even via social media!
Finally: don't forget about making time for yourself and God each day so that you can enjoy some quiet moments alone with Him while also engaging in activities like reading books (or listening to podcasts) as well as spending time with family or friends who bring joy into our lives just by being present around them.
