We all want to be more grateful in our day-to-day lives, but it’s hard to find the time when you are rushing from one thing to the next. The good news is that there are small things you can do to help remind yourself and others of how extraordinary people really are. Here are seven ideas for appreciating your friends, family members and coworkers without taking away from your busy schedule:
Give the gift of your full attention
When you're talking to someone, give them your full attention. Don't check your phone or look around while they are talking. Focus on the person you're with and try not to get distracted by anything else. If you're having trouble concentrating on what they're saying, take a break and come back to the conversation later when you are better prepared to focus on what they have to say.
Ask someone about his/her life
If you have a friend or family member who is part of your life, it's time to start asking them about theirs.
Ask someone about their family and friends. What are they doing with their time? What do they like and dislike? Are there any books or movies they've read recently that they want to recommend? You can also ask what kinds of food they like, which gives you an opportunity to share some local favorites if you're in a new city or state. Also ask them how their work week is going—is there anything interesting happening at work right now?
Ask questions that make them think back on their past experiences in order to learn more about what makes them tick. You might be surprised by some of the answers!
Write a letter to someone who changed your life
It's pretty obvious, but you should always be thankful for the people in your life who have helped you along the way. This can be a teacher, a family member, or even a friend—anyone who's been there for you and made an impact on how you live your life. So why not write them a letter? It will make them feel good too! While this may seem like an old-fashioned gesture, writing letters is still as relevant (and popular) today as ever before. Your recipient will appreciate being acknowledged for all that they've done and having their importance reaffirmed by knowing it hasn't gone unnoticed by someone else either. Plus it's simple enough to do: just take out some stationery and pen—or open up Microsoft Word if that makes things easier—and get started!
Call an old friend
Calling an old friend or family member can be a great way to show appreciation. If you haven’t talked to them in a while, this will be a welcome surprise and make them feel special. When you call, ask how they are doing and what’s new in their life. This will help keep the conversation flowing and leave them feeling like you care about them. To make the call more personal, set aside time beforehand so that they know they are special enough for an actual phone call instead of just texting or emailing.
Share your talents with someone
Sharing your talents with someone else is a great way to show them appreciation. Don't be afraid to share your gifts, knowledge and experience with other people. They'll appreciate it!
Write thank you notes to people who were generous in helping you with something you were working on
You don’t have to be a member of the British royal family to appreciate how important it is to write thank you notes. When someone does something out of the ordinary for you, it’s important that you let them know that you appreciate their efforts. If a client has been especially helpful in assisting your company with its marketing campaign, write them a note letting them know how much their help has meant. If an employee went above and beyond their job description to assist you with something on your plate, give them a hand written thank-you card or email expressing your gratitude for their dedication and hard work.
If sending handwritten thank-you notes isn’t your thing (or if they just seem too old fashioned), no worries! There are plenty of ways in which technology can help keep track of all those who made an impact on your life—and helped make things happen at work (and elsewhere). Here are some tips:
Send a photo of yourself to people you’ve met while traveling so they can remember the moments they shared with you.
When the time comes to say goodbye to friends, family and new acquaintances, it’s important to remember that they are individuals with their own lives and interests.
Send a photo of yourself to people you've met while traveling so they can remember the moments you shared with them. This will let them know that you care about them, without making things awkward for you or your traveling companions.
You can send it by email or postcard; whichever is more convenient for both of you! Just make sure that the picture is clear enough so everyone knows who it is supposed to be (and what clothes they were wearing at the time). Remember: not everyone enjoys having their picture taken as much as others do—so don't force anyone into taking pictures if he/she doesn't want one!
If your friend doesn't want a photo of herself alone but would rather have one with someone else instead (like her family), then that's fine too! It's all about being polite here - so don't just assume she wouldn't want one because she might actually enjoy seeing herself in such a flattering light :)
True gratitude comes from within and appreciating the small things that others do for us can help us be more grateful in our day-to-day lives
Gratitude is something that many of us take for granted, but it's something that we should all practice more often. Appreciating the small things others do for us can help us be more grateful in our day-to-day lives.
If you want to learn how to be more appreciative, try some of these seven tips:
Start by making a list of everything you're grateful for and reading it every morning or evening before bedtime. This will remind you of all the good things in life that don't get enough focus in our daily routines.
Make an effort to notice when someone does something nice for another person or group, such as volunteering at a soup kitchen or organizing community events like bake sales and car washes so everyone has access to fresh water bottles while they run errands around town during hot summer months which are especially hard on those who cannot afford air conditioning units at home!
It doesn’t take much to show appreciation for the people in your life, but it can make such a big difference. Remember to be grateful for all of the little things they do—and don’t forget that you can express gratitude by doing something nice for others!
