I'm a big fan of honesty. There are so many benefits to being honest with yourself and others, from improving your relationships to building trust among colleagues, and to building trust in yourself. Honesty helps you be a better entrepreneur, spouse, parent or friend by helping you set boundaries for yourself and respecting those boundaries in others.
Having strong values can help you establish boundaries.
Values are the foundation of your life. They help you make decisions, guide your actions, and establish boundaries.
Values can serve as a compass in the midst of a busy day. At work, they can help you decide how to respond when someone challenges your ideas or solutions. At home, they can lead you to be more patient with loved ones and help keep the peace at dinner time by finding common ground with opposing viewpoints.
Be a person of your word.
As a person of your word, you are honest and trustworthy. You keep your promises and avoid making false statements. When someone trusts you, they can rely on your honesty because they know that nothing will be hidden from them.
Being a person of your word is not only about keeping promises; it also means being consistent in other ways as well. For example:
Be honest about who you are and what you believe in - avoid hypocrisy! In other words, don't contradict yourself by saying one thing but doing another or pretending to believe something when actually it is different from what you actually think or feel (this could apply to religion).
Don't make promises that are too hard to keep - don't overcommit yourself! If someone asks if they can count on something from you then say yes but also tell them why there might be some obstacles ahead which might prevent this promise being fulfilled (e.g., "I'll come back next weekend" but then something comes up so cannot return). If possible explain why the obstacle came up so this doesn't happen again next time around...
Be willing to ask for help and give it when asked.
It is important to recognize that we all need help at times. It is good to be willing to ask for help when you need it, and likewise it's a good thing to offer help when asked. It's not always easy but being honest with yourself about your own limitations will make this easier. You never know who has a solution or an idea that could help you solve your problem, so don't be afraid to ask!
At the very beginning of this module, I mentioned how our values can sometimes seem like hurdles rather than guiding principles for learning and living together as humans. However, if we are willing to face up against these hurdles and work with them constructively instead of trying to undermine them or ignore them altogether, then they can become more like steppingstones in life's journey; helping us reach our goals instead of hindering them from getting there faster than we would otherwise!
Be humble.
Being humble doesn’t mean you have to be subservient or timid; it just means being unassuming and modest about your strengths. When someone asks you for a reference, don’t brag about what an amazing employee you were or how many sales you closed—just tell them the truth. If something went wrong at work, don’t try to blame someone else for it—take responsibility for your own actions and be honest about what happened.
Be humble about your weaknesses as well: if one of your skills isn't great yet but could use some improvement, let people know that too! We want to hire people who are willing to take criticism constructively and grow as individuals rather than those who are arrogant enough to think they know everything right away.
Honesty makes us better people and allows us to build up trust in relationships with other people.
Honesty is one of the most important values to have. Being honest means that you are being truthful and do not lie. Honesty is important in all relationships, whether it's with your friends, family or co-workers. Honesty allows people to trust each other and build strong relationships that last a lifetime. When you are honest with yourself and others, then you can be successful in life because people will trust what you say or tell them without further questioning it because they know you're not lying to them or trying to hide anything from them!
To be an honest person:
Tell the truth no matter what the situation may be!
Don't lie about things that don't matter (like how many cookies were eaten during movie night).
Be yourself at all times - even when things get tough!
We encourage you to take these five steps and implement them into your life so that you can be the best person possible.
