There's no denying that life can be chaotic and stressful. But if you're feeling overwhelmed, there are some simple steps you can take to organize your mind and restore peace. Here are five ways to do just that:
Write down everything that's on your mind.
Don't prioritize or sort anything, just jot down whatever comes to mind.
Don't worry about whether something is urgent or important; just write it down as soon as it pops into your head, and then move on to the next item on your list without pausing to think about what you should do next with this information (assuming there will be a next step at all).
If your to-do list is longer than your arm, the first thing you'll want to do is sort it. There are several ways that you can go about this, depending on how much time and effort you are willing to put into organizing your tasks. Your options include sorting by urgency, importance, category, or time frame.
Urgency: Start with the most urgent tasks first. This will help prevent procrastination because they're at the top of your list when they otherwise wouldn't be—and it will make sure that you don't get buried in a pile of less urgent items later on in the day (or even worse: between now and tomorrow).
Importance: Once you've sorted by urgency and completed those most pressing items off of your plate (or inbox), move on to sorting by importance. This means putting aside any tasks that have been lingering around for some time but which aren't as important as others might think them to be or not as urgent as others believe them to be. For example: if someone asked me what my vision was for their website and then said “we need someone who can code HTML5”...I would tell them no thanks!
All of these things can be done with a simple prayer. I recommend you pray for the people involved in each item on your list, asking God to help them, guide them and give them wisdom. Then ask God for the right outcome for each situation and that he would give you peace of mind as you go through it.
Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have when dealing with stress. It will change your life if you start using it!
Pray about the things you can't change.
In this category, consider what you need to take action on—things like making a doctor's appointment or scheduling a meeting with your boss. Then, trust that God will help you accomplish these things in His perfect timing.
Pray about the things you can change.
Consider how you are responding to situations in which God wants to give you wisdom and guidance through prayer. Are there decisions or attitudes that could benefit from some spiritual refreshment? If so, then pray more specifically about those areas of your life.*
The first step to organizing your mind is to take action on the tasks that need to be completed. This means taking each task one at a time and focusing on it until it is completed, before moving onto the next task.
The second step is using a checklist to keep track of what has been done and what still needs to be done.
The third step is not worrying about the tasks that have not yet been completed or even begun, since they are part of a future you cannot control. Instead, focus solely on doing everything within your power today so that tomorrow can bring fresh opportunities for success!
Organization is one of the easiest ways to improve your life. You don't have to be a pack-rat or a neat freak, but if you can just get everything in its place, your mind will thank you for it.
Clutter is stressful and can take over your life, so it's important to keep things under control. When we're being bombarded by clutter, there are more things on our minds than can possibly be productive or relaxing—which also means less time enjoying life!
Organization helps us get things done because we have fewer distractions around us at all times; this allows us to focus when we need it most. It also gives us more confidence in ourselves because we know where everything is and don't have anything weighing down our minds when we're trying something new or going into an important meeting or conversation with others in our lives (friends/family/partners).
In the end, it comes down to this: if you want to be a more organized person, then you need to start with your mind. You can't organize what isn't there. And by organizing your thoughts and tasks, you'll find that the rest of your life will fall into place in ways that were previously unimaginable. Take a few minutes today and make a list of everything that's on your mind. Then sort it into categories such as prayer requests and action items. Finally pray over each item before taking action on those items which require action from you!
